You’re already writing, so come and learn how to get published.
Write to Publish, a one-day conference for writers exploring the publishing process hosted by Portland State University’s Ooligan Press, is on Saturday, April 28 at PSU’s Smith Memorial Student Union, just ten days from today! The theme for this fourth annual Write to Publish is Step Into Genre. The conference features many Oregon genre writers in science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, and romance, including Phillip Margolin, Chelsea Cain, Lilith St. Crow, Lisa Hendrix, Jay Lake, and William F. Nolan. Get to know these authors ahead of time on the Write to Publish blog, where these professional writers give expert advice on all aspects of the publishing process, such as working with editors and agents, examining cover designs, and dealing with negative reviews.
Learn the basics of publishing from acquisitions to editing, design, marketing, and sales. Write to Publish panels tackle crucial topics like social media, digital publishing and e-books, young adult markets, and trans-media (publishing in a variety of platforms). The full schedule of panels is here. Network at Write to Publish. Presses, printers, and promoters will be in attendance; for a full list of vendors look here.
Tickets are available for the full day, individual panels, or the author’s stage, and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or the PSU box office.
Write to Publish offers developmental edits of manuscripts by publishing graduate students, and a flash fiction contest in which the winning author receives free entry to the conference. Although the 2012 deadlines for submission have passed, keep this in mind for next year.
