In September 2008, PSU received a grant from the Miller Foundation to support faculty—and student—created projects that focus on sustainability. One of the fourteen student projects recently funded by this grant is Rethinking Paper and Ink: The Sustainable Publishing Revolution, a teaching guide designed to push publishers toward developing sustainable practices in the creation of books. Melissa Brumer and Janine Eckhart are the co-writers of this book as well as the founders and co-managers of Ooligan Press’s Sustainable Publishing Initiative. Ooligan’s newly formed sustainability workgroup has been granted funding for their proposed “The Sustainability Book,” which will serve both Ooligan Press and the PSU community in areas of environmentally sustainable photocopying, printing, and publishing, whether in the office or through outside vendors.
